Vancouver-born, Toronto-based artist Avry is continuing to hone and develop his craft; pushing and experimenting with his sound and traditional sonic styles as he delivers a unique blend of hip-hop, pop and R&B genres. Emerging onto the music scene last year, and with only three songs out so far, Avry has already gained over 281,834 streams on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. Marking his third release, and the end of an incredible year in music, was his latest single Back To You which he showcased at the end of last year.
With the ringing of a phone and automated voice message beginning the track; as the voice massage plays out, a gentle and ambient instrumental begins to emerge on the sonic landscape as the melody starts to kick in. Giving off a mellow and ambient energy, the vibrant instrumentation is filled with an infectious and rhythmic bassline, captivating percussive beats and sporadic sound samples that deliver a distinctly groovy and infectious vibe. Infusing a slight EDM sound into the sonic composition, Back To You showcases another side to Avry’s sonic style and artistry.
“Back to you was originally just an instrumental that I was listening to by a producer named Chiara in the passenger seat of my friend’s jeep in the summer. I had a topline made already a minute into the instrumental and headed to the studio that night. This is one of the most natural songs I have ever made, the lyrics came so quickly and naturally. After it was originally done, Chris Stiliadis added crazy post-production bringing the song to the next level and doing a great mix and master on the track as well. After the release, I met up with a photographer in Vancouver named Muni and he shot the video on a rooftop in Gastown. The vibe was great. Then Chris edited the video and created the lyric video. This song is a great representation of the summer in Vancouver as well as in Toronto and the carefree life we were trying to live among all this craziness”.
