Bronson Scott shares breezy new blend ‘Mistakes’

There are occasions when listening to music that you find a genre blend that you can’t quite place anywhere else. Bronson Scott’s new track ‘Mistakes’ is one of those songs. The blend of old-school hip-hop positivity with a modern lyrical element of reflection and thankfulness allows his flows to sit perfectly in the bundle of lightly fizzing synths, indie guitar melodies and bedroom pop aesthetics.

The artist explains the themes, sharing, “I was coming to grips with failure. I was starting to accept that maybe I’d just have a regular job and a regular life and at least I wouldn’t be struggling or starving and maybe that was enough. Maybe I didn’t need this epic career in music. It was still sad though because I loved music and knew I’d always write songs. I was really just reflecting on every way that I fucked up over the past decade. Drinking too much, dating the wrong women, wasting time–I had no one to blame but me. All the time we waste in our youth. It’s hard not to think, “What if I did it differently?”

Bronson’s reflections are mature, you can feel in the lyrics that he treats the track as a point of decision, does he continue down an uncertain path, or settle for something lesser? As the listener, the answer feels clear, and there’s a sense of closure as Bronson wraps up the music.

Living a double life has always been a part of Scott’s music, working a corporate day job and spending the nights performing. A state of reflection has always influenced his music, with major life events, especially the loss of his father in 2022, changing the direction in which his sound develops. As the audience, we can look forward to his upcoming EP, All Plants Go To Heaven.
