Bugeye releases alternative rock banger ‘Summer In The City’

Bugeye are a queer, alternative rock band from Croydon. Re-imagining their sound in 2018, they’ve managed to create a unique offering that features dirty guitars, disco beats, sizzling synths and exploding bass riffs that will be sure to get you up and dancing.

Their latest single ‘Summer In The City’ features their unique sound. Drums drive energy around the track, gripping the listener. Bass riffs and playful vocal hooks form a fantastic partnership on top. The vocal melodies are infectious, keeping the track stuck in your head for days. Alongside their unique sound is their unique image, their music video is a surreal and psychedelic take on the track. The video is directed by ‘Giddy Stratosphere’ director Laura Jean Marsh and can be found below:

Talking about the new single, front woman Angela Martin shares: “Taking influences from the likes of Wet Leg, Walt Disco but also looking back to the likes of Blur and Gary Numan, ‘Summer in the City’ is a playful tune that explores the society we live in today. From feeling like you’re winning in life, to turning a corner to tensions and violence, to dating apps to our fickle nature and scrolling social media boredom. Musically we tried to reflect the theme with a lazy Sunday afternoon swagger, but with electronic pulsing tones and guitar hooks of a cyclical nature (reflecting life) to drive the song forward.”

Bugeye are favourites on BBC Introducing, John Kennedy Radio X, Amy Lame 6 Music and winners of the people’s vote on Amazing Radio. ‘Ready Steady Bang’ was included on Louder Than War Top 50 Albums of 2020, and Loud Women Top Albums of 2020. The band has also received features on a long list of indie publications with rave reviews. The ‘Rock Pop Rambles’ podcast was featured in Clash Music’s Five Must-Listen Music Podcasts selected by John Kennedy.
