In his latest track, a gentle cover of Clapton’s ‘Change the World’, Casey Carmichael disseminates his emotion through a new dynamic. His songs are often love-drenched, thoughtful, reflective, but each carries a sense of melancholy, a fear of what may be lost.
This cover, however, brings nothing but brightness; it expertly balances what it means to be optimistic or even idealistic with a sense of grounding and personal satisfaction. The guitar bounces on from the first note, almost galloping forward, raised by thumping drums and lifting electric licks.
Above all else, the vocal represents what a cover should be, its lyrical connection, a stamp of individualism on track written by someone elsewhere, in a different headspace and different time. Expertly crafted and emotional.
“Change the World is one of my favourite songs because of how beautifully it describes one’s desire to give the world to the one he loves,” explains Casey, “a message that resonates with me personally. After enjoying the Eric Clapton version for years, I was inspired to make my own.”
With this release from late last year, the South Carolina artist sets a tone for 2025, unveiling more of his personality in each track, and showcasing a unique instrumental perspective.
