Multi-talented rising star Conal Kelly’s new track is a chilled alt-pop record that beams with creativity and spirit. With zingy instrumentals and Conal’s dreamy vocals, the song’s lyrics delve into introspective topics of thought processes, and displays an echoey, celestial quality throughout that is easy to get lost in. Conal’s vocal, songwriting, producing and multi-instrumental abilities are impressively honed, and his limitless talents are an asset to the world of bedroom pop.
Speaking about his new release, Conal said: “The writing and recording of this track was a real learning curve for me. My usual ‘music making process’ can get quite in-depth, since it’s just me doing all of the writing and recording. In this instance, I tried to push myself out of my comfort zone to avoid falling into old habits… I feel like this track best showcases my attempt at a fresh approach as a solo artist, so made sense to lead with it as a debut single. I’m super happy with the way it turned out and I think it serves as a good introduction.”
Conal has previously fronted Bristol indie-pop act Watercolours, where he developed his production and songwriting styles. He has gained consistent support from BBC Introducing and numerous editorial playlist features on Spotify, including Finland’s ‘Hipsteribrunssi’. From rubbing shoulders with the likes of Massive Attack, IDLES and Eats Everything, to the influential prog-rock of his uncle Mark Kelly with Marillion, Conal’s musical style is ever evolving and a joy to listen to.
