Expanding his reach in the world of R&B production, Dave Drake only recently launched his solo career, collaborating with other artists to show off the personality behind the production. His debut ‘By My Side’ dropped in 2023, and showcases heartfelt sentiment in his style. Dave has previously collaborated with the likes of A-Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Teyana Taylor and Kehlani.
For his next single, Dave collaborates with the vocalist Teni Tinks on a beautifully warming showcase of spectacular R&B. It’s heartwarming, impassioned and hazy, the production truly feeling like a layer of wistful romanticism falling on the lyrics.
Teni perfectly layers her vocals, crafting an intimacy that lights a fire in the audience. She speaks to heartbreak, nostalgia and new love. The production is filled with rooting hi-hat rattle, sliding bass tones and swirling synth design that help to blur reverberating vocals with glittering pads.
Dave dives into the release, “I did a writing camp in Colombia with my friends, this record was one of the first tracks we cut. It was written by my longtime friend Shamba Griffin, an amazing singer, songwriter and artist. The track was inspired by being in a space where women feel like they have no choice but to hone a ‘masculine’ energy, while equally wanting to let their guard down and love again – but if it’s going to cause heartbreak, they don’t want it.”
