Diving Horse describes their music as cerebral and danceable, balancing a thought-provoking songwriting nature with energetic impulses. Performing across their home city of Glasgow, they received acclaim from the national press and radio, the six-piece balancing boundary-pushing arrangements with a nostalgic edge on and off the stage.
Bringing their retro-inspired, vintage-feeling sound to a modern-day defence of optimism in a world in which it’s all the easier to be cynical, Diving Horse’s latest single ‘Sometimes I Feel Like A Fool’ is glimmering with synth arpeggios, echoey electric guitars and a mix of computerised and acoustic drum rhythms.
The vocals are an observer in all this, supported by bright harmonies to defy the cruel societal surroundings and stroll through life with a smile. The chords also play a huge part in balancing this optimism, the synths bouncing into otherworldly tones in points of reservedness and hesitance, before bursting back into the silver-lining joy.
“For this song, we wanted to write a song with a chorus you could sing along to,” Diving Horse explains, “and ‘Sometimes I Feel Like a Fool’ is what came out. Musically, the song is inspired by the later works of Talking Heads, and lyrically, the song masks feeling like a fool under poppy rhythms. We hoped to tap into a universal feeling we all have and say, ‘Don’t worry about it too much!’”
