Ebony Buckle brings stunning vocals to ‘I Think I Just Saved My Own Life’

With her album Hearts Get Started on the horizon, the hype around Ebony Buckle is at its highest since the release of her acclaimed debut Disco Lasers in 2021. The London-based songwriter writes and performs with her husband Nick Burns, carving out a unique niche within conceptual pop. Teaser tracks so far have been graceful and attention-grabbing, something Ebony continues with the new number ‘I Think I Just Saved My Own Life’.

From the dark piano stab that opens the track, Ebony Buckle showcases her ability to create truly atmospheric moments with her latest track. The music settles into a sleek groove off the bad, powered by a locked-in bass and drum duo. The vocals remain the focal point, controlling the atmosphere with poise and elegance. They are almost purposefully lonely, but the talent from Ebony cements them in beauty.

Soft synths begin to join the soundscape, with the ups and downs of electronic twinkling creating a captivating sound design unlike any other piece of music. It feels raw and immediate, yet so intricate in its design that it pulls you deeper into the music, the climax completely engulfing the listener.

Ebony shares, “I used to drink a lot and I think it was a way to quiet the critical voices in my brain. When I stopped 5 years ago, I felt so much relief that I was free of this thing that had been in the way of everything I wanted to do with my life. I felt like I had saved myself from a very different future.”

She continues, with a sneak peek into Hearts Get Started, “This album is a collection of songs written over several years, some of them being my oldest. It feels a little like a puzzle, with each song being its own world and story. When you put them together, they are stepping stones along the way of my musical adventure. I like to think of it as a prequel to our first album Disco Lasers. It’s all the music that got me to that point.”
