Far Wider is a newcomer band fronted by Geneva, best known for EDM hit ‘Glowing In The Dark’ and her time on X-Factor. The group blends the hometown sound of UK rock and soul but often finds themselves collaborating on an international scale, “from Malta to Massachusetts, York to Yonkers”.
Garnering a growing Facebook following ahead of their latest single ‘Wise Girls’, the band are clearly sending a wave of excitement through the underground. Far Wider opens their new track with a bouncy guitar line, a sliding bass and a gentle drum groove. The lyrics emerge, and the listener is helped to expect the unexpected with Geneva’s melodic placement, the instrumental steadily growing around her glowing harmony.
Horns, flutes and an upbeat sensibility join our instrumentation, keeping the sonics intriguing as the lyrics challenge the stereotypes forced upon a woman in a man’s world.
With a touch of satire played next to joyful musicianship, Far Wider finds themselves at a crossroads of genre and forges their own path forward.
The band explain some of their influences and inspirations, “We just love left-field songs and singers! Beth Hart, Amy Winehouse, KD Lang, Florence & The Machine – and the whole history of wonderful stuff before them! We love singers and writers mixing up genres – Nina Simone, Janis Joplin, Annie Lennox, Tina Turner – and that’s just the women! Great singers, Great songs. That’s what inspires us.”
