Foley – ‘Better Than Love’

Today, rising New Zealand-based duo Foley return with their first single of the year with their brand new release Better Than Love.

Hailing from New Zealand, the dynamic duo Foley is the rapidly rising artist project of 20-somethings Ash Wallace and Gabriel Everett. Emerging onto the music scene in 2017 with their debut single, they have since delivered an incredible series of releases that has seen them capture the attention of listeners around the world. Having already amassed over 5 million Spotify streams; the pair are back, and starting 2021 off strong, with the release of their brand new single Better Than Love – out today.

A gentle and emotive pop-led track, the stunning instrumental is grounded in mellow pop grooves and honeyed vocals, filled with dazzling emotion and dreamy melodies. Following on the same vibe as the previous 2020 release – So Personal, Better Than Love delivers a more low-tempo energy, infused with soulful and emotional subtle R&B undertones. Told through captivating lyricism and a poignant narrative, the track is a dreamy exploration of the prospect of love versus the reality of love, and how we can often close ourselves off from our emotions to guard ourselves against future heartbreak and angst. When love is so built up to be extravagant, dramatic and awe consuming, how can it ever live up to our expectations?

“This song was incredibly therapeutic for me – coming from a place of fear and mistrust and finally saying it out loud. Gabe has been in a relationship for a long time, and by comparison being thrown into something completely new and terrifying, it’s the first time the two of us have had really contrasting experiences like this in our writing. When you have been hurt in the past you get into the mindset that nothing can be as good as it seems. I felt at one point like I shouldn’t try anymore because the way I built love up in my head could never be reached in reality. Self sabotage is really powerful and you end up manifesting disappointment instead of hoping for something great.”
– Ash Wallace on the new single

With an exciting year ahead for the talented duo, make sure to stay tuned for more incredible releases to follow, and keep up with the pair on all their socials:  @wearefoley
