Italian indie pair Go Hawaii teased their new EP in late 2024, but now, Mangy arrives in full, bringing their dream-like bedroom pop and subtle post-punk feels to the project.
Elements of wistfulness, radiance, warmth and hazy nostalgia cross the five-track as it flows from single to single. Dynamism with intentionality showcases their new refinement from the first track, ‘Santa Barabra,’ to the final number, a cover of The Smiths’s ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’.
The project’s creation was marked by big changes in the duo’s personal lives, their attention fractured from music making. The struggles with their mental health come across with grace on the EP, making it feel all the more authentic and real.
“This EP feels like a bridge from our first album, which was the first time we put together a complete effort as a band. With this record, though, you’ll hear hints of what’s coming next. A song like Santa Barbara really shows that growth—we put our best effort into it. From the synths to the drums and guitars, everything was written in a more intentional and professional way, at least that’s what we aimed for. We’re really happy with how it turned out, and it marks an exciting new chapter for us.”
Formed in 2016, Go Hawaii reached their potential in 2022 with Trespass, now, after some time away, they’re lighting up the world again, and that’s a good feeling.
