Noel Fanaeian, a Persian-Filipino composer, is the mastermind behind hundredmillionthousand. Studying under the best composers in the world, Noel has refined his skills by working alongside the likes of Laurel Halo and touring the world. He creates music that is sure to entice whilst being thought-provoking.
“Attention Span” is a 6-track offering. The album includes offerings such as “Ten” and “Eleven” which feature atmospheric synths and pounding bass lines. Sampled vocals ebb and flow in between, whilst tidy production holds the tracks together. Tracks such as “One” sound larger-than-life whilst also offering vulnerable moments with ethereal sounding synths.
Fanaeian’s unique sound and aesthetic can be seen married together in the music video for the album’s title track which can be found here. The sampling mentioned early is also very relevant. Vocal samples heard throughout the album were obtained by consensually field recording sexual moments of partners who met on dating apps. Fanaeian spliced and auto-panned these field recordings to render intimate human moments into samples resembling sonic data points.
Noel speaks further about the release: “I used the sounds of the most intimate and emotional human moments and computerised them into indistinguishable sounds and then made them into music. My intent was to comment and work through my own struggles with connecting in the digital age. In today’s day and age there is no way to discuss the current state of human relationships and intimacy without acknowledging how technology has moulded how we interact with each other. The internet and online dating platforms are perpetuating feelings of attraction, infatuation, connection, confusion, disconnection and little losses. It’s created a disposable cycle of human intimacy. I wanted to capture this feeling and cycle in sound. I noticed experiential electronic music has an obsession with the newest technology; I wanted to create music using a process that explores the effect of techphillic culture to study intimate human connection in the modern age.”
hundredmillionthousand is embarking on a 9 date European tour this September/October, with performances in Berlin, Helsinki, Barcelona, Skopje, Porto, Novi Sad, Krakow, and more.
