JAWNY – EP: ‘The Story of Hugo’

“So please listen to me when I try to tell you that I love you”

Back with his latest new release, rising superstar JAWNY is back today with his brand new EP, The Story of Hugothe follow up to his debut project and dazzling hit, For Abby. A captivating six-track record, the EP marks the exciting next chapter in the artist’s musical journey and the latest taste of his unique and diverse sound and style; seamlessly blending together generic elements from across pop, hip-hop, funk and rock. A captivating new project, the LA-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist continues to showcase why he is a current “artist to watch”; having already established himself as one of the most exciting new artists of last year, with his viral hit Honeypie racking up over 143 million streams on Spotify, and The Story of Hugo the latest taste of his artistic skill and talent.

Featuring several pre-released singles, The Story of Hugo opens with the short but sweet intro, Hugo Is Born, that features a stunning piano melody and JAWNY’s gentle vocals, swiftly followed by a behind the scenes conversation between him and his management team about the record. Candid, immersive and engaging, Hugo Is Born is a perfect introduction into the world of the EP and perfectly sets the scene for what’s to come. As we get into the body of the record, we delve into track number 2, Best Thing; the first of the pre-released singles. An addictive and irresistible track, Best Thing is an innovative and vibrant alternative pop-led song that gives off a bouncy and high-energy melody. Playful and fun, Best Thing is an instant hit with its catchy production and glimmering soundscape as he delivers a narrative all about obsessive love. From this, we move to the next of the pre-released singles on track number 3; Take It Back. Switching things up with a more rock-led vibe and bold guitar riffs, we get a glimpse of JAWNY’s artistic diversity.

Getting deep into the EP, JAWNY breaks things up with You Should Watch This One; a brief mid-record interlude that sees him having a conversation about the Grammy’s. Showcasing another side to his artistic sound, this transitions into the more emotive and indie-led Tombstone Grey; a standout song on the record. Maintaining this ambient, indie energy into the final track; Can Ya sweeps us up in a bold and enchanting soundscape that features subtle synth elements, rhythmic percussive beats and a melodic bassline, placed alongside JAWNY’s dazzling vocals and stunning harmonies. As the final notes of the track play out, the EP ends on a gentle, acoustic guitar note, accompanied by JAWNY’s soft vocals, as the EP comes to an end.

Following up the EP release, JAWNY is also set to deliver the music video for Tombstone Grey next week, making for a perfect accompaniment to the track and record. With exciting things ahead, make sure to keep up with JAWNY and his incredible musical journey on all his socials:
