“I wish I was everything I’m not”
Today, and back with another incredible release, rising London-based pop artist Maki Flow delivers her dazzling new offering – her brand new single Everything I’m Not. The second track taken from her forthcoming debut EP Can’t Act My Age, Maki Flow continues to turn heads, and further develop her artistry, as she introduces us to the latest example of her sonic sound and style. With an exciting year ahead, Everything I’m Not provides another poignant and emotive snapshot into her sonic world, wrapped up in a dynamic power pop ballad that you are sure to be having on repeat all weekend long.
Delivering an effortless fusion of Nu-Disco and classic pop, Everything I’m Not once again showcases Maki’s ever developing skill and talent as a songwriter and artist. From the pounding and addictive rhythm section to the soaring vocals in the chorus, Everything I’m Not gives off the infectious and atmospheric vibes that make for a perfect summer anthem as the warmer months and end of lockdown gets closer. Candid and relatable, the track explores what it’s like to not love, told through Maki’s captivating lyricism and emotive vocal performance; but overall, delivers an overarchingly positive message as it serves as a reminder that you are never alone and that even from the worst of moments, we can all craft something beautiful.
“’Everything I’m Not’ is the most honest song I’ve ever released and the one that is closest to my heart at the moment. It brings tears to my eyes every time I listen to it because it reminds me of a time when I was really struggling loving myself. I’ve always been a very insecure girl and I have this tendency of feeling out of place everywhere I go – It takes me a while to adjust to new situations and I always have this annoying voice in my head trying to tell me I am the loser in the room. We all have those bad days, sometimes you just need to go through them to pick yourself up. I’m glad I wrote that song, it’s a reminder I can turn those bad moments into something magical, like a song and I hope it can help people to feel less lonely whenever they feel they’re not enough.”
