Marko Ivic’s dives into electro-acoustic music have resulted in a slew of captivating piano compositions. Developing his understanding at both the University of Zagreb in Croatia and the Conservatory in Amsterdam, the sound designer, performer, innovator and composer reaches new heights with his debut album When I entered there was a room.
The project takes listeners on a ten-track journey, striking their thoughts with reflective melodies and fantastical arrangements. It offers up a space to find yourself, providing commentary on the passions and small moments of life.
When I entered there was a room pushes the ideas of Marko Ivic further, enriching his talents and holding a sense of place. It crosses boundaries of production, at some moments the simplicity of a lonely piano, and in other layers of delay and reverberance, colliding the different elements together.
Emotive, ever-changing, and fresh on every new listen, the culmination of Marko Ivic so far sets the tone for the future.
Marko adds, “This album explores the vast potential of a concert grand piano interacting with live audio processing. The result is a collection of pieces rich in rhythm, pulse and delays, but also full of colour, lyricism, and emotionally charged landscapes.
The idea behind the album title is to portray music as a space where you can connect with yourself—your inner reflections, thoughts, emotions, and what you want to express. The ‘when’ signals a possibility: if you choose to go inward, you will find a space that has room for you.”
