Mola Oddity unveil new music video and album reimagination

The collective Mola Oddity stems from three individuals, Birdy K, Yider and Asr. The trio have made their presence known in Asia, releasing a string of singles as deep-sea creatures with unique traits. As they’ve grown, they’ve shown their hand as obscure, thoughtful and creatively challenging.

After unveiling their debut album The Other Side of Hope earlier in the year, the three-piece have recorded and released an English reimagination, pulling from the same ideas and structures as the original but bringing it to a fresh audience.

Including the track, ‘Marmalade Day’, which has also got itself a new music video. The band lean into their abstract aesthetic with jazz-tinged grooves that bring together plucky electronics with smooth traditions in their twinkling keys. Paired with a slightly ghostly vocal, and the occasional production pull, it makes for an ethereal finished experience.

They share, “For Mola Oddity, the creative process always begins with the arrangement: the music comes first, followed by the expression that naturally grows from it. This album is a collective recollection of impactful moments drawn from daily readings, films, and social observations. At its core, the album explores the many dimensions of “hope.”

Hope, in itself, holds the power to endure. Or perhaps, it exists because it is shaped by shadows, tears, absurdities, and fragments of brokenness—echoing the times we live in. Yet, despite it all, we must continue to yearn for hope. After all, if we are all souls who have chosen to return, then even the pain we once thought unbearable becomes something we can endure.”
