My Satellite have just unveiled its second album, over a decade since ten-track Lift emerged. Bringing a ten-song-length collection once again, Person is now out in the world. It showcases a vivid evolution of their sound, but, more importantly, an intensifying mix of soulful, experimental and electronic soundscapes.
Most of the tracks are over four minutes, giving the band plenty of space to create self-contained journeys of emotion and sonic vibrance. Each new song brings kaleidoscopic psychedelia, mixing guitars with synths and expressive vocals in a way that almost feels like prog metal without distortion.
You can feel the extended lifespan of the project’s creation, in the immense amount of detail, the almost unheard added layers that come together to serve a higher purpose. It’s quite the return to releasing from LA-pair Bryan Stage and Andy Marshall and, without a doubt, worth the decade-long wait.
“About two years after the release of our last album LIFT, we were looking to take our sound somewhere new and uncharted for us,” the band shares. “We set out to make the psychedelic album that we would want to listen to – an album that would impact others in the same way that Stevie Wonder, Radiohead and Tame Impala albums have us. One that put importance on the perfect bass line and drum groove, was incredibly maximalist at times, wasn’t scared of being too much or too bizarre, and most importantly was a singular work of art that is more than the sum of its parts. We spent eight years writing, tweaking, rewriting, mixing, and remixing to get to a final version that we are immensely proud of… It is a journey that, much like a relationship, leaves you intact yet somewhere different from where you started.”
