Alan Bonner, a 15-year music industry veteran and founder of the legendary Laksmi & Alaska Bar music nights in Berlin, is here to present a compilation of his creative output as a solo singer-songwriter over the years.
Alan’s diverse tone is captured in his newest LP, ‘Before The Half Light – Selected Works,’ which includes both magnificent, enticing ballads and more stripped-back, melancholic compositions. The record, which includes a wide spectrum of musical influences, is a compelling listen throughout, establishing Alan as a master of his craft.
Alan Bonner shares further about the new release:
“Fifteen years ago, in February 2007 I was in London recording what would become my first solo record. Little did I know that 15 years later I would be releasing a 23-track double album documenting my musical career to date.
The collection spans all my 4 solo records of original material, excluding my 5th, 2020’s The Way Old Friends Do covers album, which was a project all of its own.
This is not the greatest hits record. I am yet to have even one of what could be considered a hit, having spent my career so far on the fringes of the music industry. It is a compilation made up of what I consider to be the best bits of my output as a songwriter so far.
15 years in, I am still that kid with a desire to take the road less travelled, to move people, to touch their soul by bearing just a little of my own. Still with the burning need to find redemption under the spotlight of a stage in the throes of song, and to live a life less ordinary. 15 years in, I am only just beginning.”
Alan Bonner has toured internationally, self-released a number of critically acclaimed albums, starred in a musical cabaret theatre production, lauded the historic supergroup Abba, and chronicled his struggles as a gay youngster growing up in rural England in the 1990s. Alan has evidently been recognised in recent years, with support from outlets such as BBC6 Music, MTV Italy Grazia, Gay Times, and Attitude, and this record is a celebration. Saluting a 15-year music industry veteran who, as he puts it “only just beginning”.
