Music Releases & Reviews

New in Music: March 2020

While many of us may be going a little stir crazy while sat at home in quarantine, many artists and musicians have got your back with some incredible new music releases this month. From some well known bands, to some up and coming new artists; there has been a mass of new single and album releases that will make the perfect addition to your playlists. So here, in no particular order, is a run down of some of our favourite new releases this month.

  1. 5 Seconds of SummerCALM

Back with their fourth studio album, 5sos’ latest release, CALM, is definitely one you don’t want to miss. With a new synth-electronica inspired sound, the band are going back to their roots with an honest and introspective project that places a focus on looking back at their journey as a band. With a blend of upbeat pop-rock bangers, mixed with some absolutely sunning ballads; the album features some of their well loved pre-released singles such as Easier and Teeth, as well as some highly anticipated new tracks such as Red Dessert. Described by the band as the most honest version of themselves; this album seems to bring in a new era of music for 5 Seconds of Summer. 2. Tom Misch & Yussef Dayes

Since announcing the release and debut single of off his upcoming collaborative album, What Kinda Music, with Yussef Dayes, last month; they have gone and released two new singles from the upcoming project this March. They kicked off the month by releasing Lift Off, which features the talented Rocco Palladino. It’s a stunning instrumental track, infused with Jazz and funk elements; accompanied by some stunning visuals. The next track, Kyiv, is another smooth instrumental jazz-funk track; although with a slightly more low-tempo and mellow vibe than Lift Off. Giving us a preview of the album, and the new sound that’s to come; definitely give these two tracks a listen ahead of the album release next month!

3. Nothing But ThievesIs Everybody Going Crazy

The perfect single release for right now; Nothing But Thieves released their latest single, Is Everybody Going Crazy, earlier this month. Their first release since their 2018 EP What Did You Think When You Made Me This Way; the addictive rock track is nothing if not relatable, with its themes of the dystopian world we’re living in. And the track’s high energy, and catchy baseline, make this a perfect song to have a mini at home concert to! The single was followed up last week, with the added release of an accompanying music video. So make sure to give the single a listen, and check out the music video as well!!

4. KehlaniToxic

Following on from her last release, Valentine’s Day (Shameful), which dropped last month; R&B queen Kehlani is back this month with another release, her latest single – Toxic. A deep and moody slow-tempo R&B track, this one is all about looking at the distressing aspects of a toxic relationship; and is an undeniable sass-filled breakup anthem. In addition to Kehlani’s incredibly addictive vocals, she also released a steamy music video to go along with the track, live from quarantine. Her third release so far this year, I’m sure we’ll be getting a lot more smooth R&B releases from the songstress throughout the year!

5. New RulesPasta

Responding to the love the track received when they played it on their latest headline tour, New Rules decided to make their song Pasta their latest single. The song is an adorable, laid back, acoustic-pop track, which will be hard to get out of your head. With an easy listening, Sunday morning chill kind of vibe; this is the perfect track to listen to while chilling at home. With stunning vocals running throughout the track, the stripped back instrumental really allows this to be the focus of the single. Their first release of the year; Pasta follows on from their self-titled EP, which they released at the end of last year. A perfect track to kick off 2020 with, I’m sure we’ll be hearing plenty more new music from New Rules soon.
