With a laid back, indie-pop meets R&B sound; New York-based artist Spence released his latest single Standby (dnt luv u) earlier this month. Teaming up with his brother, Jackson Hoffman, to produce the track; the song is a vibrant soundscape of bubbly up-beat instrumentation and charismatic vocals that infuses fun, playful and distinctively groovy melodies. The follow on from his debut release Sight earlier this year; Standby (dnt luv u) comes as an exciting release off of his debut EP, Melissa, which is set for release next month.
Featuring a unique sonic composition, the single blends an eclectic instrumentation with fluid beats and witty lyricism. With a playful and charming melody running throughout; there is something about the up-tempo rhythm of track that puts you in a happy, mellow mood, despite the slightly more gloomy context and theme behind the lyrics.
Under the guise of a more exuberant and up-beat instrumental, the infectious single ultimately details the difficulties in breaking up with someone and wishing the feelings were still there. And with his warm and charismatic vocal delivery, Spence’s use of both electronic and analogue sounds give off a sense of comforting nostalgia, that will have you keeping the track on loop!
Rapidly proving himself as an exciting new artist to watch, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming release of Spence’s debut EP Melissa. And to keep up with Spence, find him on all his socials:
