Earlier this month, Nashville-based alternative-pop band Nightly, teased their upcoming debut album, night, love you, with the release of a brand new single – the car – alongside some stunning visuals. The fifth release from their highly anticipated album, and the follow on from their previous single Summer; the car tells the story of a relationship that is falling apart, but still hoping and wondering if there might be a chance to make it work. With frontman Jonathan Capeci’s soothing vocals against Nightly’s signature laidback pop melodies, the car is another Nightly track that is honest, emotive, and highly relatable.
Kicking the track off with an up-tempo, indie-based instrumental; the car continues with a classic Nightly energy. With smooth indie-synth beats, the track is a mellow and laid-back listen that will make a perfect addition to any autumn playlist!
In addition to the single, the band also released some brand new visuals to accompany the track. In typical quarantine fashion, the video focuses on the trio, with them driving through open green country roads in their car; the perfect ode to the track’s title. The aesthetically-pleasing visuals show the band acting out their very own heist, and driving their red vintage car from city to city while trying to conceal their identities. However, tying into the premise of the track; we quickly see the adrenaline wear off, and lead singer Jonathan Capeci spread out in the backseat of the car with a yellow bouquet of flowers, wondering how he got to where he is. Ending the video on a frame of the bouquet, left on the parcel shelf of the car, we are left to wonder who the flowers were for?
