Paolo Ruiu announces dystopian dreams with new EP ‘Last Out’

Paolo Ruiu, the enigmatic multi-instrumentalist and producer, is set to release his much-anticipated new EP, ‘Last Out.’ This collection of songs showcases Ruiu’s incredible talent for blending emotional and strong vocals with rich, dystopian soundscapes. ‘Last Out’ is a journey through a world where blissful dreaminess constantly clashes with the weight of reality. With influences ranging from The War on Drugs to Unknown Mortal Orchestra and The Raveonettes, this EP promises a sonic experience that is hauntingly beautiful. The sound is a mix of shadowy guitar tones and dynamic electronic arrangements, with vocals that cut through the mist of frequencies.

Sharing his thoughts on the new release, Paolo Ruiu remarks, “The EP reflects a variety of themes, for which I wanted to explore the darker edges, using heavy saturation, multiple distortions and echoes, and pushing further than previously with the detuning of synths and guitars.”

Paolo Ruiu’s musical journey is as compelling as his sound. Raised in the South London suburbs, this second-generation Sardinian-Brit first gained attention as one-half of the critically acclaimed duo, Young Romance. With the band’s touring plans disrupted, Paolo ventured into solo territory, releasing several initial singles that formed the foundation of his debut EP, ‘Low.’ This project was recorded in his home studio using a mixing desk once employed by Pink Floyd and a Tascam 424 cassette recorder. Continuing his passion for analogue recording, ‘Last Out’ was crafted in a former Victorian sweet factory on Cable Street, drawing from Lo-fi Indie, 70’s Psychedelia, and 80’s New Wave. With this release, Paolo Ruiu reaffirms his place in the music world and promises much more to come.
