Indian born and London based singer-songwriter saachisen has had a fantastic couple of years. She’s landed a semi-finalist place in the International Songwriting Competition, a Long List position in Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition and won PRS for Music’s Lynsey de Paul award. She’s also played popular London venues like O2 Academy Islington, the Camden Assembly and Oslo Hackney. All in all, saachisen has quickly become a rising star within the music industry – and she’s looking for 2023 to be even better.
Her latest offering comes in the form of single “Pastéis de Nata.” The foundations of the track are musically immersive, and feature warm piano lines and flowing strings. Her vocals land softly on top and glisten within the mix. saachisen also certainly showcases her fantastic lyrical ability within the track.
Speaking further about the single, she says: “Pastéis de Nata is the true story of my quest for closure from a past relationship. I loved the process of writing it, because it was so satisfying to tie up the mess of thoughts in my head through the medium of pastry! Having a sweet tooth is a key part of my personality, so it felt like I was reclaiming events and finally seeing them on my own terms. In the end, the thing that really gave me closure was writing the song itself.
Pastéis de Nata won a shortlist place in Abbey Road’s inaugural topline competition during the pandemic and has been fully produced / mixed by David Leondi (Abbey Road Institute) and mastered by Stella Massonnet (Apple Music’s Platoon). It features violin played by Portuguese national Maria Viseu, and cello by Linden Ralph.”
Saachisen is next performing 29th March at Upstairs at the Ritzy – it’s not one to miss.
