Samskara Rad is a high-octane artist whose transition from 80s prog-punk band member to solo hip-hop energiser came across a 25-year hiatus. Signed in Melbourne as part of The Mood, life soon took Simon on a different journey, becoming a well-respected and successful yoga instructor, and opening a large yoga school near his home in Australia.
Samskara Rad’s latest track ‘Only Fan’, was released recently, and sees the artist begin to experiment with some more dreamy and laidback sounds than fans will be used to. Opening with a breezy synth pad and gentle gliding pluck, the track then falls into a romantic swayer, drenched in Samskara’s personality, whilst the artist puts his production stamp on the music with rich warm bass hits at the forefront of the mix. There’s still a dynamic energy to his songwriting, but the new presentation is much more of an emotional outpour.
Samskara speaks on the release, “A dreamy lullaby bubblegum version of Biggest Fan. For me, it’s hard to do slower-paced songs, as I’m always in the minute and driven by energy. So, writing Only Fan taught me how to create emptiness and space in a song and still be energetic, but with a different emotional vibe.”
