“Say those things that I never do/ I’ll be your number one fan”
The newest in their series of 2021 release, The Driver Era have been embarking on the an exciting new chapter in their musical journey over the past several months, with their latest offering being their brand new single, #1 Fan, which they delivered late last week. Released alongside some exciting news, the band also announced their highly anticipated forthcoming sophomore album, Girlfriend, which is set to be here this fall. Written and produced by brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch, #1 Fan is an exciting new glimpse into what’s to come and what we can expect from the new album.
Following on from their previous release Heaven Angel, and continuing the music The Driver Era created and released throughout 2020; #1 Fan is a chill and infectious alt-pop track all about being not only your significant others, but also your own, number one fan. With an incredibly catchy melody, the gentle instrumental features an array of rhythmic percussive beats and smooth guitar lines that bring you deep into the song’s sonic world, placed seamlessly alongside the band’s laid-back vocals; creating an easy-going and warm atmosphere that is perfect for the summer months. And maintaining their signature sound and style, the track fits perfectly into their ever expanding discography.
Talking about the inspiration behind #1 Fan, Ross explains:
“The song has two meanings – when we first started writing this song, my girlfriend (Jaz Sinclair) was also releasing music, and I loved that we aren’t one of those couples that feel like it’s a competition when there are two creatives involved. It’s also really about being your own #1 Fan, which Rocky and I absolutely are.”
Accompanying the track, the band also released some brand new visuals to go along with the single that give off some major picture perfect summer vibes, seamlessly reflecting the energy of the song. Seeing the band having fun and enjoying the summer, the video features the band with their friends and girlfriends — actresses Jaz Sinclair and AlexAnn Hopkins — enjoying one of their rare days off. With scenic clips of ocean views and high-definition shots, placed alongside retro-tinged visuals and camcorder clips, we see the band letting loose and having some down time; hitting the water, riding jet-skis, dancing and having fun.
