Hot on the heels of their earlier release, “Midnight Sun”, The Sea At Midnight has returned to the spotlight with their latest alt-rock single, “Chopping Them Down”. Inspired by early post-punk pioneers, The Sea At Midnight debuted in 2020 with their self-titled album and have been on the upward trajectory ever since. The band are committed to confronting the realities of climate change, and all proceeds from the single will be donated to victims of the recent Los Angeles fires.
An ominous melody carves its way through the airwaves as the track is brought to life. With foreboding synths and a sharp electric guitar line, the single creates an atmosphere both captivating and warning, perfectly capturing the fear we should all feel surrounding the consequences of climate change. “Chopping Them Down” looks to further cement The Sea At Midnight as not only an innovative band but also insightful social commentators.
Speaking on the meaning of their latest single, singer-songwriter Vince Grant, dives in, “The science behind climate change is straightforward: carbon dioxide, primarily from burning fossil fuels, accumulates in the atmosphere, trapping heat that would otherwise escape into space. This leads to rising global temperatures and climate instability. Trees play a crucial role in mitigating this by absorbing carbon dioxide, converting it into oxygen, and storing carbon. However, when forests are destroyed—whether through logging, land clearing, or wildfires—the stored carbon is released back into the atmosphere, exacerbating global warming.”
