Taking her time to set a scene with evolving instrumental textures and vocal processing, TIMEA’s latest track ‘Sick Of Playing Pretend’, steadily builds an atmosphere of purpose and emotion, coming to terms with her own feelings and echoing this in her production. The soft hum of pianos, vocoder melodies and rhythmically enticing drums all begin to descend on the listener, reframing the repeated hook of ‘can we be friends?’. The fine balance of a break-up is reflected in the arrangement, as melodies come and go like thoughts, some forced and some free, engulfing the whole song as a slice of deeply personal poetry.
TIMEA explains, “I wrote this song about the bitter after-taste of a breakup when you are missing the person so much and wonder if you could ever be friends again. I don’t understand the whole concept of cutting the person who once meant the most completely out of my life. ‘sick of playing pretend’ is all about trying to act like I don’t miss that person anymore whilst admitting to be asking the question, can we ever be friends?”
Spending her time between New York and Bratislava, TIMEA has graced the US, the UK and Europe with a sound that seeks to push indie pop’s boundaries, evolving in her musical authenticity alongside this mission. Her debut album is on the horizon for 2025, and the buzz around her name continues to build.
