The latest example of his diverse and ever evolving sound and artistry, Wichita-based artist Tommy Newport shines on his latest new single Yellow Lines.
Born in Manchester, England, rising artist Tommy Newport relocated to the US with his family at six years old where they moved around from Dallas to Seattle before settling in Wichita, Kansas. After picking up the guitar as a teenager to ease the boredom that comes with the idyllic, but monotonous life in the Midwest; Newport submerged himself into music and hasn’t looked back since. Honing his craft and artistry, Tommy make his musical debut in 2018 with the release of his inaugural single – I Forgive You. Since then, he has released a series of captivating records, and experienced a meteoric rise; already having amassed over 11 million Spotify streams to date. Starting 2021 off strong with his first release off the year, last month, Tommy delivered his brand new single Yellow Lines; a smooth and groovy brit-pop, rock infused track, followed up by the release of a brand new music video – self-shot and directed by Newport and his frequent collaborator 4th Pyramid in Los Angeles.
Showcasing another side to Tommy’s skill and artistry; Yellow Lines was also produced by Tommy himself, alongside 4th Pyramid. Opening with a dance-based synth inspired beat, that weaves its way throughout the song, Yellow Lines encapsulates the feeling of losing focus on the highway and getting a quick jolt to keep your eyes on the road once you’ve ever so slightly crossed over those yellow lines. Delivering a distinctly funky and addictive instrumentation, the track is a vibrant fusion of hip-hop, alternative, funk and pop sounds; drawing you into a dazzling kaleidoscope of genres to create something both entirely captivating and unique. Accompanied by a brand new music video, the visuals for Yellow Lines perfectly echoes the sentiments, narrative and vibe of the track with it’s fast paced, cinematic energy, as we see Tommy perform the song in a variety of locations – transitioning from scenic LA hilltops to night-lit highways.
