Fresh from his debut self-titled album and live concert video, ‘CAESAR’ is the latest release from Swedish singer-songwriter Vargen. Having already wowed UK and US based press, Vargen’s newest venture is playful, folk-led and melodically captivating. Inspired by the likes of Nick Cave and Bob Dylan, there are also glimpses of modern contemporaries like Leon Bridges and Kacey Musgraves.
Discussing the work, Vargen explains: ”CAESAR tells a story filled with symbolism and introspection and delves into themes of power, betrayal, and self-awareness, exploring the complexities of relationships and personal struggles. I tried to express what could have been going on inside this historical icon of tyranny.”
Raw, real and juxtaposed, ‘CAESAR’ is a carefully crafted anthem that’s as jovial as it is complicated. This marriage of conflicted emotions is Vargen’s speciality and he continues to impress.
