Young Jimmy’s ‘Heavy.’ sparks a hood-rock riot

New York’s Young Jimmy breaks barriers, fusing rock and hip-hop into hood rock. Raised in the Bronx, taking influence from his peers and his stepfather hip hop legend Grandmaster Mele Mel, Young Jimmy went on to forge a career performing alongside Kendrick Lamar, Freddie Gibbs, and Saul Williams. Following on from Rocket 88, he unveils ‘Heavy.’, featuring Kam Franklin, positioning himself as a standout pioneer.

New York-based artist YOUNG JIMMY is breaking barriers with his unique fusion of rock and hip hop, which he dubs ‘hood rock.’ Raised in The Bronx and influenced by his stepfather, hip hop legend Grandmaster Mele Mel, YOUNG JIMMY has performed alongside Kendrick Lamar, Freddie Gibbs, and Saul Williams. Following the success of his debut album Rockett 88, he returns with his new single “HEAVY” featuring Kam Franklin, solidifying his place as a standout solo artist.

Roaring a sliding organ sound into sloshy drums and a firm bass line, the opening moments of Young Jimmy’s new single ‘Heavy.’ set out with roots in The Beatles’ ‘I Want You’, a showcase of Jimmy’s love for modern rock & roll blends. With the steady instrumentation behind him, Jimmy’s vocals sway through punchy lyricism, speaking to boundless self-confidence, feeling the envy from your peers and beginning to distrust those around you.

A diss track at heart, the confidence is combative, the fiery vocal tone becomes more bitter and angered, whilst the psychedelic melodies and shrieks from Kam Franklin become more prominent.

“I met Kam Franklin in the summer of 2023 and recorded her vocals soon after in Maine before finishing the track at The Cutting Room in NYC. The song is a brutal evil track directed at my opps. With twirling organs, roaring guitars, disrespectful war-like lyrics, and haunting vocals soaring over everything,” Jimmy shares.

The single edition reaches its climax with a distorted guitar riff taking control, each layer of vocal falling into the whirlpool of the soundscape before the vinyl and radio exclusive section unleashes Young Jimmy’s true intentions. A full-scale, punchy, unadulterated diss.

“The record is a diss track against my enemies, haters and music industry professionals who I have personal beef with. Inspired by classic rock music, I’ve been working on the song since 2020 making this the last song of the ‘Rockett 88’ recordings.”
