London’s own Alto Key is back as he looks to finally draw back the curtain on his latest project, ‘you’re honestly doing so well’. Since the release of teaser single ‘how lucky i am’ earlier in the year, the indie-pop artist has moved from strength to strength since his appearance on E4’s ‘Will You Marry Me?’.
Featuring six tracks, ‘you’re honestly doing so well’ highlights Alto Key’s approach to producing heartfelt, optimistic anthems. Landing somewhere between indie-pop and folk, the EP takes a softer, more reserved approach to song craft, often opting for a gentle acoustic strum or a tender wash of synthesisers, bringing out the true beauty of the songs.
Not only that, but the new EP even features the titular lead single ‘you’re honestly doing so well’, a sub-three-minute ballad that acts as a delicate hug during a tough time, the love of a close friend whilst troubled water passes through.
The new EP highlights the power of songwriting and its ability to tap into emotion after emotion, sharing and easing hardship. Speaking about the themes embedded into the project, Alto Key dives in, “The entire EP is really a collection of songs all about uplifting people. The lyrics are all things I wish someone had told me when I’ve had my own struggles in life. Things like ‘you’re honestly doing so well’, ‘there’s a reason that I’m holding on’ and ‘nothing can hold me back’. Though I won’t list them all, I really hope these songs have the power to take somebody out there out of a dark place and give them everything they need to hear in that moment.”
